The Ptychodontidae Jaekel 1898, is one of the most confusing and fascinating shark families of the Cretaceous. Ptychodus is a durophagous shark genus (Elasmobranchii, Ptychodontidae) which occurs in Albian-Campanian marine deposits of Europe, North and South America, Asia, northern and western Africa (Cappetta 2012).

Journal of Systematic Palaeontology strives to maintain the highest possible ethical standards in research and our existing policies state that we will not consider contributions containing material “that is abusive, defamatory, libellous, obscene, fraudulent, or illegal”. In addition, we also maintain that specimens described within the journal should be held in publicly-accessible repositories, in order to maximize reproducibility. Rabies caused a great scare here and led to the culling of over 22,000 dogs, but eventually it was eradicated from our shores.
